What I Did Last Summer
Actor, Scenic Charge Artist, Properties Master…. I was a busy lady!
Scenic: I chose a cool palette for the family home vs a warm palette for Anna’s porch. One week before opening heavy rains caused flooding across the stage. We had to tear down half the set (the mint green interior), de-humidify for 3 days, then install a new layer of flooring and rebuild the set. Plus I was still tweaking that last monologue. I had to sacrfice some final paint details, but I still think it came out beautifully, like a hazy memory.
Props: Though the script calls for mostly mimed props, there were a few real ones thrown in. The major peice was the neck brace, which I had 2 days notice to construct. Almost all materials were found on my props bench. I only had to purchase an athletic chin strap to help pull it together. I also reupholstered and painted some very old stools to be a matched dining set.
