Scenic Design, Construction & Painter
My first full scenic design, made with mostly recycled and repurposed materials and borrowed flats. The director and I wanted to include classic TV sci-fi elements to make this nostalgic for everyone. The view screen stage left functioned as a puppet theatre, while the TV screen stage right was for the news announcer. I loved the “whoosh” door, which functioned as an USC entrance as well as semi-masking for the band, but my lack of expertise and the excessive rain, made it a challenging scenic element. The director and cast embraced the concept though, and it became a running gag throughout performances that everyone using it said “whoosh”, in character, to make it open & close. All drafting and rendering was by hand.
