Into The Woods
This entire production team was so inspiring, it’s no wonder this show won so many awards!
Director Micheal Lluberes barely got the word origami out of his mouth when I almost shouted “Do I get to make origami birds?!” He gave me so much freedom to play with the design elements. The contrast between the scenic and costume designs gave me so interesting ways to play with what materials to use when fabricating props. And I fabricated a LOT of props for this show!
Elements of origami were not only done with paper, but also with fabric. The same rope elements used in the costumes were mimicked in the Stewards staff, Little Red’s basket, and especially the harp. Costume Designer Brandon McWilliams was inspired by corn husk dolls for the witch, and I took that element to the faces of the Baker’s child and Rapunzel’s twins. Even the ear of corn was mad with paper and frayed ends of rope.
